Postural Rehab with BTMM

Balance Through Movement Method

BTMM is a system of training that is both diagnostic and developmental. The primary goal is to develop the body in such a way that suspected nerve compressions are prevented or alleviated. It’s a set of principles that work with the nervous system and can be applied to all disciplines to solve undiagnosed lameness and a variety of behavioral issues. It restores balance to horses and helps them feel safe in their bodies so they can comfortably and confidently perform the tasks we ask them to do.

Pillar One: Relationship to Connection

  • Helps horses regulate their nervous system

  • Gently releases compensatory patterns

  • Improves posture

Pillar Two: The Center of Balance

  • Engage core stability

  • Develop the muscles for self carriage

Pillar Three: Spinal Integrity

  • Increase spine and limb ROM

  • Reduce excessive wear and tear on joints

Any horse will benefit from incorporating BTMM exercises into their workout program. Common issues that can be improved or resolved:

  • Abnormal Compensatory Patterns (i.e. goat on a rock resting posture)

  • Collapsed thoracic sling creating a downhill appearance.

  • Tension that persists even with regular bodywork

  • Roached lumbar spine

  • Rotated limbs and base narrow stance

  • Plateau in performance

  • Spookiness and reactivity

Balance Through Movement Method is revolutionary. It is a lens that can be applied to every area of horsemanship. Training for soundness is possible!
